Here's a gallery of some snapshot moments from the trailer: The evil sorcerer Shang Tsung will also be a playable combatant, though he'll be available only to those who pre-order the game (it's assumed there will also be options for purchasing him separately post launch). Main roster confirms include Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Kung Lao, and Kenshi Takahashi. It seems some characters are available as both Kameo and standard roster options, while others are restricted (thus far) to just one or the other.Ĭonfirmed Kameo fighters include: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Kano, Goro, Kung Lao, Stryker, and Jackson "Jax" Briggs. The final moments of the trailer see a triumphant Scorpion and Sub-Zero tower over a conquered foe in a post Fatality scene. The whole thing climaxes in a brutal display of some of the goriest video gameplay we've seen to date as most of the aforementioned fighters slice, dice, rip, slam, and otherwise mutilate one another in true MK fashion. Though neither get much screen time, both Stryker and Kano pop in as Kameo fighters. Don't worry, though, he still has access to his trademark electric powers and abilities. Raiden trades his usual elder-status for that of a young trainee as we get a youthful and potentially human version of the Thunder god, perhaps as a Shaolin Monk. Though it's been nearly 30 years since we last saw this particular outfit, we identified the character's Mortal Kombat 2 threads immediately. Liu Kang has seemingly teamed up with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, and the trio recruit a young Kung Lao into their group.Ī visually unimpaired Kenshi and Johnny Cage duke it out for a few brief moments in the living room of Cage's multi-million dollar home, and we get to see a Sub-Zero Kameo assist as the pair pull off a sequence with samurai swords.įire god Liu Kang puts the hurting on Scorpion and calls in a young (non-bionically enhanced) Jax for a patented back breaker. Seeing as we're now in earlier years, the characters we've come to know are getting some significant makeovers as some appear much younger than ever before. Speaking of story, this next installment will see yet another reset on the Mortal Kombat timeline as Liu Kang is using his newfound godly powers to go back in time. Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Mileena, Liu-Kang, and Raiden are all back as well, engaging in bits of gameplay along with some story scenes. Some of these fighters appear to be relegated to the "Kameo" assist mechanic, (as opposed to being fully available on the character select screen) but we do see them pull off some gnarly and involved sequences as they team up for some brand new potential.
